This Department of Education modernization project aimed to reduce the agency’s space footprint and associated out-year costs. This project consisted of the renovation of the East and West Side of this Headquarters Building 2nd and 5th floors, which housed the Department’s Office of Management.

Banneker served as the General Contractor for the renovation of the 2nd and 5th floors of the Department of Education Headquarters building. The entire project consisted of approximately 120,000 sq. ft. of space. The reconfiguration of the two floors allows for the future consolidation of leased space in Washington, DC. The modernization was aimed to reduce GSA's footprint, building greater employee performance management, and increasing productivity through innovative space design and technology enhancements. This project was performed in accordance with LEED requirements as the building is LEED Certified Silver.
